Three fined for slaughtering sick cow in Nandigram, leaving to sell meat

Suman Kumar Nitai, Staff Correspondent:- In Nandigram, Bogra, there has been an incident of slaughtering a sick cow for the purpose of selling the dead calf meat in the stomach of a healthy cow. According to the information received, a cow worth about 1 lakh taka belonging to Md. Hashem in Nandigram Municipality and Umarpurhat fell ill while giving birth.

Miskin Hossain (47), son of Azahar, Sohel Rana (25), son of Sona Sheikh, and Ashraf (27), son of Qurban Ali, of the same area, slaughtered the sick cow and were taken to Sherpur by CNG when they were caught red-handed by the local people at the Umarpur bus stand. Later, when the local people informed the police, the police went and took them into custody.

Upon receiving the news, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kurshia Akhter rushed to the spot. When asked, he said that the fraudsters were fined Tk 10,000 through a mobile court and the seized meat of the sick cow was buried in the ground.
