Jubo League leader injured in post-election violence in Nandigram

Nandigram (Bogra) Correspondent: Jahangir Alam Zillur (32), vice-president of the Union Jubo League, was seriously injured in a beating by his opponent in the post-election violence in Nandigram, Bogra. He was first taken to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment, but the doctor on duty saw that his condition was serious and sent him to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment there. A complaint has been filed with the police station regarding the beating.
It is learnt that on Tuesday (December 28), around 5:30 pm, while Jahangir Alam Zillur, Vice President of Thalta Majhagram Union Jubo League of the upazila, was going home from Trimohani Bazar when UP Chairman Abdul Matin, his father Yakub Ali and brother Shamim Hossain and their associates Gaziur Rahman, Enamul Haque, Abu Hasan and 10/12 unidentified people blocked his path and beat him up. He was seriously injured. Jahangir Alam Zillur voted for the boat in the Thalta Majhagram Union Parishad election. Because of this, they got angry and beat him up. Earlier, on December 13, during the Union Parishad election campaign, they also beat up Union Jubo League President Baidyanath.
When talking to Upazila Jubo League President and Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Dulal Chandra Mahanta in this regard, he said, "A complaint has been filed with the police station regarding the assault on Union Jubo League Vice President Jahangir Alam Zillur. We strongly condemn and protest this incident. At the same time, we demand exemplary punishment for those involved in the incident."
When I spoke to the police station's officer-in-charge, Abul Kalam Azad, he said, "We have received a complaint about the assault. It will be investigated and necessary action will be taken."
When talking to UP Chairman Abdul Matin, who was re-elected as an independent candidate, he said, "At that time, we were in Gopalpur village. Later, when we came, we saw that there was a commotion in Trimohani Bazar. After that, we calmed the situation down."
Mobashar Hossain Swaraj, an executive member of the central Jubo League, visited the injured Zillur Rahman in the hospital and demanded exemplary punishment for all those involved in the attack.
