58 Billion Dollars Product Exports

The export target of commodity exports has not been achieved in the recently concluded 2025-26. The actual export has been less than 1 percent. It is in this reality that the export target of 58 billion dollars or 5 thousand 800 million dollars is being set for the current financial year 2026-27. This is the actual export of the last financial year.

It is learned that the Export Development Bureau (EPB) has prepared a proposal for the export target of the current financial year in consultation with the entrepreneurs and various ministries of various sectors. Last week, the Ministry of Commerce has sent a proposal to the Ministry of Commerce. Next week, Commerce Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury can announce the product and service export target.

Recently, the EPB held a meeting with the representatives of the government departments and exporting entrepreneurs' organizations related to the Ministry of Commerce, agriculture, fisheries, tea and small cottage industries. The impact of the potential trade agreements, including the economic partnership agreement with Japan, has been discussed, and the product-based export targets are said to be analyzed based on the analysis of the data and the opinions of all parties.

Two organizations of ready-made garment exporting entrepreneurs BGMEA and BKMEA had sought written proposals in this regard. BGMEA has proposed a target of 10 per cent growth on exports in the last financial year, while BKMEA has proposed to set a target of 5 per cent growth, which has also been discussed with the EPB. The two organizations have also highlighted the information and data related to this.
