Local influential people have been accused of purchasing 40 old houses of Chargobindpur shelter project of Madaripur Sadar Upazila without tender. The poor people were forced to sell the houses under the pressure of three influential people including UP members. The helpless people have become homeless. Stating that there is no opportunity to sell the house, the upazila administration says that legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
It is known that in 2001, the government built a cluster village in Chargobindpur of Khwajpur Union for the poor. Due to lack of renovation for a long time, the houses became uninhabitable. So the Madaripur district administration took the initiative to build new houses there. New house construction activities have also started. On this occasion, three influential people named Azizul Akon, Nazrul Sardar, Zakir Hossain of Khwajpur Union forced the helpless people to sell their houses at water rates. 40 houses were sold for only three lakh rupees. A handful of people get 3750 taka, but the rest do not even know about house sales. Going to the spot on Tuesday afternoon, it was learned that the residents became homeless when the process of removing the houses started from Monday. They started living on rent elsewhere. Poor people are afraid to open their mouths about this.
Some residents of the project, on condition of anonymity, said that 40 houses were demolished at the same price in the first phase. Some gave Rs 3,400 to some residents. Now 40 more houses are being removed. 3 thousand 750 has been paid to someone. Many were not even paid. They are dominant and we cannot protest as we are helpless.
Meanwhile, one Nazrul Sardar admitted the purchase of the house. He claims that with everyone's consent, he bought the house and started the removal process.
In this regard, Madaripur Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Wadia Shabab said that legal action will be taken if written complaints are received from the victims.
