Special Superintendent of Police (CID) of Comilla, Mohammad Rezwan, said that Comilla's Iqbal Hossain, who was arrested for keeping the Holy Quran in the worship hall, is neither a wanderer nor a madman. In response to the question whether Iqbal is crazy or a wanderer, he said, 'Iqbal fled to Cox's Bazar to hide himself from everyone after the incident. It is never possible for a madman to take a train to Chittagong, and from there to Cox's Bazar.'
He also said 'Iqbal is very sensible, there is no chance to call him a vagabond or a madman. Iqbal has National ID card. Apart from this, he was engaged in the profession of pea worker. On the other hand, Iqbal worked in the service of the mosque. Iqbal is a sensible man with a sound mind.
Superintendent of Police Khan Mohammad Rezwan said that the remanded accused Iqbal Hossain is being interrogated. Their interrogation yielded many important facts. However, Iqbal Hossain, the main accused in the remand case, is said to be a madman and a vagabond, but in fact he is neither a madman nor a vagabond.
On October 13, a total of 12 cases have been registered in the district till Monday in various incidents, including blasphemy by placing the Holy Quran on the lap of Hanuman idol in the outer part of the temple celebrating the Autumn Durga Puja in Nanua Dighi Par area of Comilla city and later vandalizing the temple based on this issue. Out of this, 8 cases have been registered in Kotwali Model Police Station, 2 in Sadar South Model Police Station and 1 in Daudkandi Model Police Station and one in Devidwar. Among them, four accused, including Iqbal Hossain, the mastermind of the incident of insulting the Holy Quran and hurting religious sentiments at Kotwali Model Police Station, are on 5-day remand for the second round from October 29.
