A firestorm of anger has engulfed parts of Bangladesh as furious demonstrators burn images of a provocative Sylheti blogger, Musammoth Afsana Ahmed Busra,<\/a> accused of launching vicious assaults on Islam and respected Islamic scholars. The wave of protests\u2014led by groups such as Jamaat-e-Islami \u2014has reached a boiling point, with crowds vocally demanding the ultimate punishment for his perceived sacrilege.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to outraged protesters, Musammoth Afsana Ahmed Busra uses her website<\/a> to peddle disturbing narratives\u2014among them, a personal account of alleged childhood sexual abuse at the hands of a religious teacher. But their fury is fuelled not by this alone, but by his sweeping accusations aimed at the Quran, Hadith, and Bangladesh\u2019s religious institutions. Her posts, they argue, go far beyond critique \u2014 portraying religious teachers as unchecked child sexual abusers protected by scripture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In one of her most incendiary claims, the blogger says that had the Prophet of Islam been alive today, and married Hazrat Aisha, who was around 9 years old at the time, according to authentic hadith, he would have been declared a paedophile<\/a> , and sent to prison or a mental health institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
