Staff Correspondent: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has repeatedly elected from two constituencies in Bogra. Khaleda Zia was elected as a member of parliament five times in a row from 1991 to 2008 from Bogra-7 (Gabatoli-Shajahanpur) constituency. And she was elected three times in a row from 1996 to 2008 from Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituency.<\/p>\n
This time, the boat-nominated candidates won in both these seats.<\/p>\n
District Awami League General Secretary Raghebul Ahsan Ripu was elected in Bogra-6 constituency with the boat symbol. He received 53,226 votes. His nearest rival, independent candidate (Truck) Abdul Mannan Akand, former organizing secretary of the city Awami League, received 22,840 votes.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Dr. Mostafa Alam Nannu, the district Awami League advisor, was elected in Bogra-7 constituency. He received 91,029 votes under the boat symbol. His nearest rival, ATM Aminul Islam of the Jatiya Party (Plough), received 6,801 votes.<\/p>\n
Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam announced the results of the counting of votes from 144 centers in Bogra-6 constituency and 172 centers in Bogra-7 constituency at around 10 pm on Sunday (January 7).<\/p>\n
Gabtoli Upazila is where BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was born. For this reason, Bogra-7 is known as the "Zia family seat". BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia won this seat by a huge margin from the 1991 to 2008 national elections. She was nominated for this seat in 2018 as well. However, she could not contest the election that year.<\/p>\n
