Thefreespeech.net site taken offline & developer arrested

Yesterday, law enforcement raided the offices of websyncbd.com, a web development and hosting business based in Savar Dohs, Nabinagar, Dhaka, and arrested its owner, Md. Juwel, for allegedly for continuing to host thefreespeech.net, which has been in the news recently.

In response to the rising public outrage over alleged blasphemous remarks against the Prophet Muhammad and attacks on religious institutions in Bangladesh, law-enforcement officials say they are actively investigating and have identified Afzal Hossan, the owner of thefreespeech.net, who they confirm is currently overseas.

Following the raid, law enforcement confirmed that thefreespeech.net, as well as Md. Juwel’s business website, had been taken offline as part of the operation.

Released on bail, Mr Juwel has been barred from engaging in any web development or hosting activities until the investigation concludes.

Further, they reassured the public that the blogger will be apprehended upon return to Bangladesh for serious arrestable offences.
