Madaripur district Awami League president Shahabuddin Ahmed Mollah, who is in jail in a murder case, has resigned. His lawyer Advocate Sujit Chatterjee Bappi and his wife Professor Shabana Shaheen confirmed this information on Thursday (October 31) afternoon. Shahabuddin Ahmed Molla is currently imprisoned in Madaripur District Jail.
Lawyer Sujit Chatterjee Bappi said that last Friday (25 October) Shahabuddin Ahmed Mollah resigned from the post of president of Madaripur district Awami League in writing. He announced his resignation publicly on Thursday (October 31) to all present in court.
The lawyer said that he was staying abroad during the cases against Shahabuddin Ahmed Molla. He also has a pacemaker implanted in his chest and suffers from various complications including heart disease. His bronchitis requires the use of a nebulizer several times a day, which is not possible in prison. Earlier, his wife Shabana Shaheen appealed to Madaripur Superintendent of Police for the release of Shahabuddin Ahmed Mollah.
Shabana Shaheen said that on October 25, Shahabuddin Mollah told me and his lawyer Sujit Chatterjee Bappi from the prison that he has resigned from the district Awami League post.
It is known that BGB arrested Madaripur district Awami League president Shahabuddin Ahmed Mollah from the border area of Comilla while he was fleeing to India on the morning of September 16. Later BGB members handed him over to Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station. He was sent to jail by the court on September 17.
On August 25, Member Secretary of Madaripur District Chhatra Dal Kamrul Hasan filed a murder case in Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station mentioning the names of 92 people.
The accused in the case are former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Member of Parliament for Madaripur-1 Noor-e Alam Liton Chowdhury, former Member of Parliament for Madaripur-2 and former Minister of Shipping Shajahan Khan, former Member of Parliament for Madaripur-3 and Dhaka-8 Afam Bahauddin Nashim. , Madaripur-3 Constituency Former Member of Parliament Dr. Abdus Sobhan Mia Golap, Madaripur District Awami League President Shahabuddin Ahmed Molla and General Secretary Kajal Krishna Dey, former Zilla Parishad Chairman Munir Chowdhury, Sadar Upazila Parishad Former Chairman and Shajahan Khan's son Asibur Rahman Khan, Shajahan Khan's younger brother and District Bar Association President Advocate Obaidur Rahman Khan, former mayor of Madaripur Khalid Hossain Yad, president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hafizur Rahman Khan Bachchu etc.
