The number of deaths in Brahmanbaria's trawler collision with sand-laden trawlers has risen to 21. The location of the sunken boat has not yet been identified. The administration is conducting a rescue operation with the help of locals, with the shore passengers who have reached the shore, said there were about 70 passengers on the sunken boat, who were still missing passengers. A diving team is being brought from Dhaka to rescue.
The administration said that the bodies recovered in the naval incident are being taken to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for the recovery of the bodies and the bodies will be handed over to their legal relatives.
The accident took place at Laiska Bill in Vijaynagar upazila around 5:30 pm on Friday (August 27) The passenger-laden trawler sank after a sand-laden trawler collided with a sand trawler on his way from Champaknagar in Vijaynagar to Brahmanbaria. On receiving the information, the police and fire service personnel went to the spot and started a rescue operation.
Ankhi Akhtar, a passenger in the accident boat, said the boat had left at 4:30 pm from Champaknagar in Vijaynagar with at least 70 passengers on the way, and the boat sank when a trawler was hit by a sand-laden trawler.
Vijaynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mirza Mohammad Hasan and Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Emranul Islam said the rescue operation was going on at the scene and the divers reported from Dhaka.
