Zillur Royal, Nandigram (Bogra): Despite relief in the vegetable market in Nandigram, Bogra, potato prices are not decreasing. The potato market is still wide. In the space of a week, the price of all vegetables except potatoes has fallen by Tk 30-40 per kg. However, vegetable farmers of the upazila complain that they are losing capital due to the collapse of the vegetable market.
On the ground, it is known that going to Omarpur and Kundarhat, 2 big markets of Nandigram upazila and talking to the sellers, because of strike and blockade, less vegetables are going out. Besides, every vegetable has come within the purchasing power of the buyers as winter vegetables have come to the market. Now in the market, eggplant is Tk 20-25 per kg, Radish Tk 8-10 per kg, Cauliflower Tk 25-30 per kg, Cabbage Tk 25 per kg, Potato Tk 25 per kg, Bitter gourd Tk 30 per kg, Beans Tk 45 per kg, Tomatoes are being sold at Tk 80-100 per kg, cabbage at Tk 40-50 per kg and green chillies at Tk 60 per kg.
Apart from this, the market of all kinds of vegetables including red leafy greens, spinach and green leafy greens is within the reach of buyers. A week ago, the price of these vegetables was almost double. But the most demanded vegetable potato is being sold at the same price as before. Potatoes are still selling at Tk 55-60 per kg. And new potatoes are being sold at Tk 150-200 per kg.
Retail vegetable trader Sirajul Islam said that the price of almost every vegetable is half compared to last week. Every vegetable in the market is now within the reach of consumers. There are few new potatoes in the market. The price of potatoes will come down in a few days.
Joynal Abedin, who came to the market, said that relief has returned to the vegetable market after a long time. Prices of most vegetables, except potatoes, have fallen. But the prices of all other daily necessities are high.
A farmer of Chakalma village of the upazila said that the farmers will face huge losses in the vegetable market. Those who sell vegetables with their own hands are getting some money. And those who sell wholesale are losing money. Now 150-200 taka man mula. 600-700 taka money copy. 400-500 Tk. Eggplant. The cost of growing vegetables. Losses should be calculated by selling vegetables in this market.
