Disabled woman commits suicide by hanging herself from balcony in Nandigram

Staff Correspondent: A disabled woman named Reshma Akhter (26) committed suicide by hanging herself in Nandigram, Bogra. Reshma Akhter is the daughter of Nurul Islam Tungku of Katham Purbapara area of Bhatgram union in the upazila. According to local sources, in 2006, her mother Nurjahan Begum died in a road accident and her daughter Reshma Akhter was injured and became disabled. She got married in Namuit area a year ago while she was disabled. Their family broke up after 6 months of marriage. Since then, Reshma Akhter has been living in the house of her elder brother Kuddus and maternal uncle Matleb. Friday, September 15

Reshma Akhter committed suicide by hanging herself from a bamboo pole on the balcony of her house at midnight. Witness elder brother Kuddus said that he went out of the house at night and saw his sister Reshma hanging herself from a bamboo pole. He immediately called everyone in the house. After finding no other way, he informed the police station on the advice of everyone. When asked, Nandigram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain said that a UD case has been filed in the police station in this regard.
