In the third match of the Caribbean Premier League, Andre Russell, one of the most destructive batsmen of the present time, went on a batting rampage against the Saint Lucia Kings. He has set the record for the fastest fifty in the history of CPL by reaching fifty off just 14 balls.
Russell came to the wicket in the 18th over of Jamaica Talawaz's innings on Friday (August 27). There were only 17 balls left. Obed McCoy took two wickets in the first two balls of that over. Russell got his first strike on the third ball. He took one run. McCoy struck again in the fourth ball.
Then unbeaten by only 1 run. From there, in the last two overs, Wahab Riaz and Obed McKay gave the Cyclone the book. From where Jamaica picked up 54 runs.
Russell played 13 deliveries with three no balls in the last two overs. Wahab scored 32 runs in Riaz's 19th over with four sixes and a four. Later, two sixes and two fours came in the last over for another 22 runs.
Out of the total of 54 runs from two overs, Russell alone scored 49 runs. At the end of the innings, Russell's name can be seen next to his tornado innings of 50 runs with 3 fours and 6 sixes from 14 balls.
Jamaica scored a massive 255 for the loss of 5 wickets on the day of Russell's fastest fifty. Which is the second highest team collection in CPL history. Trinbago Knight Riders scored 267 runs against Jamaica in 2019. That is the highest Cpl.
Playing for a target of 256 runs, St. Lucia was all out for just 135 runs. As a result, Jamaica left the field with a victory of 120 runs. Andre Russell was selected as Man of the Match. Afghanistan holds the world record for highest runs scored by a team in T20. They made 278 runs in 20 overs against Ireland in Dehradun in 2019.
