7,500 students in uncertainty at KUET

The impasse at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) is not easing in any way. Seven and a half thousand students are in extreme trouble as there have been no classes and exams for 100 days. There is uncertainty about their academic life. Financial activities have come to a standstill as the posts of Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor are vacant. More than 1100 teachers and officials of KUET are in uncertainty about receiving salaries and bonuses before Eid.
Classes and exams have been suspended at KUET since the clashes on February 18. In the face of student protests, the Ministry of Education dismissed KUET's vice-chancellor and deputy vice-chancellor on April 25. On May 1, CUET's civil engineering department professor Md. Hazrat Ali was appointed as KUET's interim vice-chancellor.
Although academic activities were supposed to start on May 4, the teachers did not go to class. In addition, the teachers have been boycotting administrative work since May 18. The teachers are adamant on their decision not to take class exams until the punishment of the students who insulted the teachers is implemented. In the face of the teachers' association's movement, the vice-chancellor resigned on May 22 and returned to CUET. Since then, the post of vice-chancellor and that of deputy vice-chancellor have been vacant since April 25.

Meanwhile, 7,565 students of KUET are in extreme trouble due to the lack of classes and exams. The session jam has increased due to the lack of classes and exams for three and a half months. The new batch of classes has not started since April 24. KUET students Md. Mahiuzzaman Molla Upal, Mohan Ali and Sheikh Mujahidul Islam said, due to the three and a half months of stagnation, all the students of KUET are in session jam. We were ahead of BUET and RUET. Now we have fallen behind.
A group of students has joined the teachers' protest program demanding the immediate resumption of classes. However, another group of students, who have been protesting for various demands, including the removal of the vice-chancellor for the first three months, are currently silent. They have no program.
KUET Teachers' Association General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Faruk Hossain told Samakal, "A new vice-chancellor must be appointed quickly. When the new vice-chancellor joins, we will present our demands to him. No teacher will return to class or exam until the punishment of students who insult teachers is implemented."
The President of the Teachers' Association, Professor Dr.
Md. Sahidul Islam said, "We have been boycotting classes since May 4. Before that, classes were not held due to student protests and the decision of KUET authorities."
