Awami League has organized a 'harmony rally and peace procession' across the country on Tuesday to protest against the recent attacks, arson, looting and anarchy by extremist communal groups around the Durga Puja of Hindus. Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader announced the opening of the procession at the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital in the morning.
Earlier on Monday, party general secretary Obaidul Quader announced this program in an emergency meeting organized at the party president's political office in Dhanmondi in the capital.
Today at eleven o'clock as a pre-announced program, the leaders and workers of the party's central and subsidiary organizations held a harmony rally at Bangabandhu Avenue. In the rally, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that today's attack on the temple, vandalism of idols - these are the repetition of the torture which was carried out by the BNP government in 2001. Communal attacks and terrorism have started again in the country. During the tenure of Sheikh Hasina government, every Durga Puja, thousands of pujamandaps are being worshipped. No incident occurred. All of a sudden, attacks on Hindu homes have started ahead of the upcoming elections.
Under the programme, Awami League and allied organizations are holding 'harmony rallies and peace processions' in all districts, cities and upazilas across the country. Also, national leaders of Awami League will visit various areas affected by communal attacks.
